It’s the most tragic thing in the world when working people hear about the idea of shortening the workweek and their immediate thought is “no! I need all the hours I can get, I couldn’t possibly make ends meet with only 30 hours instead of 40.” The idea that we could raise wages to compensate so that they’d still make the same amount of money as before is completely inconceivable to them. They have zero hope that that could ever happen. So their only way of viewing this proposal is as an actual class offensive against them, as being against their class interests. The job market is so competitive that people now fight to get more hours, rather than less.
Why is it that bullies can always tell you’re lgbt or like neuroatypical way before you can 😭
